The team includes experienced contractors and world-renowned scientists. The company specialises in the control and management of harmful invasive species on land and in water, and on developing materials and methods to conduct and promote best biosecurity practice by all. Clients include State and semi-State organisations, cross-border bodies, Local Authorities, consultants, contractors, among others. Staff are currently involved with a number of national and multi-national European projects, all with a primary focus on the judicious management of invasive species.
Job Description
INVAS currently has an opportunity to recruit an ecologist or invasive species scientist. We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated person to join our internationally renowned team of invasive species professionals and environmental scientists. The role will enable the
successful candidate to develop and expand their existing skills and to enhance their career opportunities under the supervision of experienced experts. The successful candidate will be involved in some or all of the following roles:
– design and conduct invasive species surveys in a range of habitats including terrestrial, freshwater and marine;
– design and conduct research projects relating to the ecology and management of invasive species;
– research and develop new and innovative invasive species management and control methods;
– conduct or assist in the preparation of AA and NIS;
– collate and review ecological information and data for desk studies;
– write scientific and management reports, and input into the preparation of peer-reviewed scientific papers;
– provide training relating to invasive species and biosecurity to specialist and non-specialist groups;
– represent INVAS at meetings with clients and at national and international meetings and conferences;
– provide assistance to the contracting wing of INVAS, as required;
– direct and manage staff, as necessary.
Skills and Experience
Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Agriculture or related (post-graduate qualifications desirable).
Minimum 3 years working experience in the environmental area, or related.
Experience in habitat and species survey design and implementation.
Experience in using GIS/mapping systems and digital services would be desirable.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent projects and research.
Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise reports.
Have excellent communication skills.
Preparedness to undertake professional development in this work area.
Full, clean driving licence.
